Watch Tribute VideoAge 69, Douglas Andrew Hay passed away peacefully on July 6, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family in Lubbock, TX. Doug was born on August 30, 1952, in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Doug and his wife Margaret “Peggy” Hay moved from Burks Falls, Ontario, Canada to Lubbock, TX with their only child and son Nicholas Allan Hay in 1992. Doug remained in Lubbock but made many trips back to Canada to stay close with family.
Doug spent his professional life as a Master Plumber and later worked in Retail Management. He always loved helping others and putting a smile on their face. When he was not working, Doug enjoyed serving his community as a devoted Meals on Wheels volunteer for over 20 years.
Doug will be deeply missed by his family and friends as he added so much to their lives. Doug was an avid gardener with a knack for planting beauty everywhere he went. He used many fruits and vegetables he grew for cooking which was another one of his passions, including his legendary chili recipe.
Doug wanted to be the change you wish to see in the world through all his positive deeds, kind words of encouragement, witty nature, and spontaneous humor. He found joy in the happiness of others as he delighted them with his many gifts and random acts of kindness. He never met a stranger in his life, just people he hadn’t had the pleasure of becoming friends with yet.
His good nature was an asset to him as he traveled the world with his loving wife, visiting four continents and 19 countries, immersing himself in a multitude of cultural experiences while exploring the wonders of the world.
Doug operated through life with the golden rule in mind and championed others through his heartfelt gestures. Known as Doug to some, Dad to one, and Papa to his four grandchildren he created a wonderful heartfelt legacy showing strength and love to his family. He will always be remembered as a wonderful man and lives on through everyone in his life.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, July 9th, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Lake Ridge Chapel. We invite you to view the live-streamed service and sign his virtual guestbook here on this page.
