The family of Dorothy will celebrate her life of 73 years at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 29, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Her family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. In support of the health of her family, face coverings are mandatory while attending the service. The service will be live-streamed on this page, where you are encouraged to sign the virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy.Dorothy Jean Mitchell was born September 27, 1947 in Duncan, OK to Marion “Bud” and Alla Mae Grubb. She went to Heaven January 23, 2021 in Lubbock, TX. Growing up in Temple, OK, Dorothy was the oldest of six children. Upon graduating from High School, she moved to Lubbock where her Uncle Shorty and Aunt Marie lived. She would go on to graduate from Lubbock Christian College and later Texas Tech, where she earned her master’s degree. While in school, Dorothy met Jim Allison and would go on to marry him in 1968. When Jim did not come home from Vietnam, Dorothy found comfort with Jim’s best friend, Bill Powell. They married and she had two sons, Russell and Michael. She spent 29 years as a County Extension Agent for the Texas A&M system where she would write and participate actively in many programs that included homemaking, 4-H, and agriculture education. After retiring in Levelland, TX Dorothy moved to Lubbock where she met and married Walter Mitchell in 2004. They lived in Lubbock until Walter’s passing in Jan 2020. She loved dogs, her boys, her family, and was a devout Christian.Survivors include sons, Russell and Michael Powell; brothers, Randy, Howard, and Dennis Grubb; cousin, Carolyn Fowler; stepson, Mark Mitchell and many more loving friends and family members.Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Jim Allison, parents Marion “Bud” Alla Mae Grubb; brother, Cecil Grubb; Sister, Phyllis Noblin, and husband Walter Mitchell.
