Doris Fay Hulme Butler Jones, age 94, has joined her family and loved ones in heaven, and now the circle is unbroken. She was born on May 1st, 1931 to Charlie and Viola Mae Hulme (according to her Momma, though her birth certificate states otherwise). She assumed her heavenly body on May 30th, 2025.
Doris attended schools in Westbrook and Colorado City, Texas. She was the first of her family to attend college at Hardin Simmons University. She married Noman Butler and they had four children: Deborah Lynn Lee (Bob) of Canyon, TX, Rebekah Diane Bennett of Lubbock, TX, Joel Bruce Butler (Pamela) of Lubbock, TX, and Brad Nelson Butler (Cindy) of Sand Springs, OK. Later she was married to her true love Carl Jones for 27 years.
Doris was an assistant and head librarian at Kilgore Memorial Library in Dumas, TX. She was married to a farmer and knew the meaning of hard work and long days. She was a prayer warrior with a powerful prayer circle. She loved laughter, JOY, Love, God, the color blue, the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, crossword puzzles, Coca Cola, milk, birds, flowers (which made her grateful God created colors), ice cream, and Jeopardy (she always ran the Bible categories). She loved to sing, and loud was the only way she knew how to. No need to ask because she would tell you she had the four best kids in the whole wide world. She was a competitor. Whether it was card games, domino games, ping pong, or basketball she was out to win. No mercy. Not even for the grand kids. (They needed a good example of how to play). But she loved her four children, their spouses, grands, and great grands with her whole heart. She loved to share stories of her childhood, during the depression, and the love her family shared to get through it. She treasured her trips to the mountains with her sisters where she “listened” so much that she came home with no voice. She loved her Ma and Pa, and how they exampled love to her and all her siblings. She exampled a faith filled and God centered life to the very end. She was the natural expression of love and joy at all times. She never disciplined her children in anger. It was always to teach them and to protect them, and always done in love. She was always willing to help her kids with their vocabulary. When she said “Do not dispute my word” we knew it was time to do what we were told. She somehow made us all feel certain that we were her favorite. From the children down to the greats they all were certain of the fact they were her favorite.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl Jones, her stepson Eddie Jones, son-in-law Eldon “John” Bennett, grandson Taylor Butler, great granddaughter Maddie Butler, and all her loving sisters: Lola, Icie, Florence, Ruby, and Bonnie, and her brothers: Wayne, Sam, and Buddy.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children Deborah Lee (Bob), Becky Bennett, Bruce Butler (Pam), Brad Butler (Cindy). Her Grandchildren Carrie Bennett, Jared Lee (Ariel), Robyn Birkenfeld (Blake), Blaze Butler (Dee), Bevin Butler Blair (Jeremy), Shane Butler (Sarah) and Tyler Butler (Leah); ten great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She truly believed that “you cannot be where God is not” and “Life is Good and getting Gooder!”
