Don Nelson

Don was born on September 11, 1930 to Leonard and Cecil Johnson Nelson in Tulia, Texas. On October 26, 1974, Don married Toza Estes Jones in Plainview, Texas. He graduated from Tulia High School and then served 21 years in the U.S. Army National Guard entering Company C 1st BG 142d INF as a Private and retiring as Company Commander of the same company. Don loved golf, traveling in the motorhome, and flying as an accomplished pilot with over 3000 hours. A general contractor of commercial buildings, he built buildings all the way from Texas to Nebraska until his retirement due to a stroke in 1990. He was a member of Raintree Christian Church.Survivors include his wife, Toza; children Clay Nelson (Kim), Gayle Creed (Kevin), and Bryant Jones (Jamie); grandchildren, Chad Nelson (fianc̩ Christy Zarate), Brent Nelson (Jessica), Lauren Flinn (Brian), Nicholas Creed (Elyssa), Leslie Ellis (Michael), Bradley, Tabatha, Chase, and Baylee Jones, Dylan and Tarrent Adams, and Makayla Ponce; great-grandchildren, Greyson Creed, Oliver Nelson, Kynsly Flinn, and Addison Zarate. He is also survived by his siblings, Darrell Nelson (Kathy), and Jane Nelson; and former spouse Nancy Nelson, mother of Clay and Gayle.He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jimmie Nelson.Memorial contributions are welcome and the family suggests Raintree Christian Church, 3601 82nd Street, Lubbock, Texas 79423.
