It is with great sadness that we announce that Claudius Dewain Collins went home to heaven on June 17th, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas. Dewain was born at home on September 30, 1936, to M.D. and Nadine Collins of Hood County, TX. He attended school in Dennis and Lipan, Texas, and attended Weatherford Junior College. He married the love of his life, Beverly Livingston, on March 27, 1958.
Dewain developed polio as a young child, but never allowed that to be a disability, or affect his outlook on the way he lived his life. He met each day and each situation head-on, always knowing that he was as strong as he needed to be and that the Lord would provide whatever was needed for him to accomplish each task. His love of life, huge smile, and silly sayings blessed each of his family members and friends, as well as the lives of his coworkers, church family, Masonic brothers, and the community.
Dewain & Beverly lived and worked in Lubbock most of their married life, with the exception of a one-year stint in Austin for his job. Together they raised two boys.
Dewain began a career with the Texas Department of Public Safety in April 1958 as a radio operator, later becoming the Supervisor of Police Communications. His career with DPS spanned 40 years until his retirement in 1998. Dewain served many years on the board at Alliance Federal Credit Union. He was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and a long-time member of Monterey Baptist Church.
Dewain was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, no matter what the situation, to family, friends, and anyone in need. He was well noted for his ‘5-minute jobs’ that would invariably take anywhere from 30 minutes to several days. But it was always, “Come on kids, I’ve got a 5-minute job for us”.
The Lord said: “Good and faithful servant, come home.”
Dewain was preceded in death by his parents M.D. & Nadine Collins, brothers James Collins and Billy Joe Collins and a sister, Yvonne Collins Bryant. He is survived by his wife Beverly Collins of Lubbock, sons Wayne Collins and wife, Kay, of Abernathy, and Cary Collins and wife, Stacey, of Lubbock. Grandchildren, Aaron Collins of Snyder, Jennifer Collins of Lubbock, Staci Thomas of Lubbock, John Schooler of Lubbock, Katie Clark of Stanton, Ashton Cerka of Lubbock and Ashley Collins of Lubbock. Dewain was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren.
