It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Debbie Martinez, on April 3, 2025, at the age of 57. Born on May 30, 1967, in Abernathy, TX, and moved to Lubbock as a child. Debbie was the beloved daughter of Eva and Joe Martinez, and a cherished younger sister to Norma Martinez.

During Debbie’s elementary years she took dance from Billie Jo’s School of Dance and learned to play the piano. Her journey through life was vibrant; she attended Tubbs Elementary, McKenzie Junior High, and Coronado High School, where she played the tuba in in band. She mastered earning a black belt in Taekwondo as well in high school. Debbie also worked part time at Save and Gain during high school.

She graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing, fulfilling her passion for helping others as a dedicated Registered Nurse for over thirty years. She began her career at Methodist Hospital that later became Covenant Medical Center. She currently was working at the Covenant Surgery Center.

Her passion for life was evident in everything she did, from her love for angels to the countless books she devoured.

Debbie leaves behind her loving family, including her parents, Joe and Eva Martinez; sister, Norm; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins who will forever cherish the memories shared with her.

Joe, Eva and Norma,. We just learned of Debbie’s passing . Please accept our sincere condolences. We regret not being there to support you during this difficult time. Know that we loved Debbie and are happy to have shared in seeing her grow . Such a lovely person, a smile for everyone. God bless you and give you strength to continue life, knowing you have an angel in heaven, that continues to watch over you, just as she did here on earth.. God’s peace and love be with you!!

So very sorry for your loss.

Joe, Eva, and Norma, I can’t find the words to express just how saddened I am with this sudden loss to the family and I know there are no words that can possibly make the pain any less or fill any void for any of you during this time and beyond. My heart goes out to you all. When I learned about Debbie’s passing, it was an incredible shock to me and as I thought about her, I went back many years to when I spent part of the summer there in Lubbock, working with uncle Joe, doing laborer work at the Texas Tech Law Library. During that time there with you all, I got to know my cousin Debbie a bit more and even though it’s been decades since I spent that time with all of you, I can still see Debbie smiling and I can indeed still hear her laughing. The thought of this makes me smile and I hope that the many memories all of you have of her help to make all of you smile. I haven’t been around nor have I seen you all in many years but please know you are all on my heart and in my prayers. I love you all and especially my cousin Debbie, whom I will always remember! Debbie was a huge part of us working together for over 25 years. One of my favorite nurses and always a joy to work with. She will be extremely missed.

Eva and Joe, How blessed you were to have such a beautiful daughter to light up your life! Debbie was beautiful on the inside and the outside! She took care of John and me on a few occasions when John was having either a knee or shoulder procedure at the covenant Surgi center, and she always took care of us with such grace and compassion and humor! I know she made you proud to the point that your hearts would burst! You will be in our thoughts and prayers as you say goodbye to this precious young woman who brought your joy all these many years. May God grant you Grace and peace and comfort in the coming days and weeks. John and Cindy Owens.
