Charlie Nealy Brown Jr. passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 72 years at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 3, 2019, followed by a reception at First Baptist Church in Idalou. A tribute of Charlie Nealy Brown Jr.’s life may be found at www.memorialdesigners.net, where you may leave memories and expressions of sympathy for his family.Charlie Nealy Brown Jr.was born on June 14, 1947, to Charlie and Alma Meeks Brown in Lubbock, Texas. Charlie married Janet Parsons on March 1, 1975, at the First Baptist Church in Spur, Texas.Charlie was a retired Lubbock Fire Fighter who served the community for 27 years. During this time, he also worked as a custom cabinet builder. Charlie and his wife, Jan, had a passion for mission work and served with the International Health Service in Honduras for 30 years. Later, they would serve in other missions and service projects in the US and outside. His other hobbies and interests included HAMM Radio, Scuba Diving, Camping, and general construction projects. Using his many talents and skills to help his family and others was a passion of his that affected many people and serves as a great example to future generations.Survivors include his wife, Jan Brown; children, Amy Ivins, and husband, Mike; Matt Brown and wife, Olivia; grandchildren, Logan, and Rylie Ivins; sister, Lanell Clary, and husband, Neil; and niece, Nancy Clary.He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Nealy, Sr. and Alma Elizabeth Brown; and granddaughter, Dae’Lynn Brown.

Dear Jan---George and I have so many warm, wonderful memories of you and Charlie and our mission trips to Honduras! You were both so amazing, so willing always to give so generously of your time and talents. You have touched many, many people so positively! Both of you were so kind and caring---inspirational in your desire to be there for others. Hundreds of people were blessed with better vision as a result of the glasses you gave them!! I ran across Charley this summer at a Parson's reunion. It was a delight to see him and renew our acquaintance. I knew Charley when I was in Post High School. Love you man, and May the God of mercy hold you in his hand.

To me, Charlie Brown was a gentle giant of a man. I am truly blessed to have known him and to have known him as a friend. It is heartwarming to read of his grand life through some of these posts. He will be missed on this side of heaven, but angels rejoiced at his entry into the eternal home. May God fill his family with His peace and comfort during this time is my prayer.

The PHS Class of 1965 was saddened to hear of Charlie's passing. Prayers for Jan and all of the family.

Jan we absolutely adored being with you & Charlie. We have wonderful memories of our many times spent on some absolutely amazing dive journeys with the both of you & Mr Charlie was famously known for basically organizing those trips himself. I never doubted that when Charlie was putting a trip together it would be exciting & unique. He really blew things over the top with that last trip to Honduras where we stayed on the top of that ROCK RESORT out in the middle of the ocean!!! What a sweetheart he was for sharing with all of us the magnitude of his generosity & kindness, what an anniversary gift to you as well. His love for you & life itself was exhilarating. He was a character with his quick wit & humorous ways & could easily get me laughing so hard my jaws ached. Charlie was an original & the mold was broken for any other like him. He will surely be missed but my memories of him will live forever. Phil & I celebrate his life with you & your family.

Charlie and his great sense of humor will be missed! My prayers are with your sweet family!
