The family of Charles Halcomb will celebrate his life of 85 years at 11:00 am on Friday, October 1, 2021, at Second Baptist Church. He passed on Monday, September 27, 2021.

On April 26, 1936, Charles Grover Halcomb was born to the late Charles and Audrey Halcomb in Tulsa, OK. He was raised in Sand Springs and graduated from Sand Springs high school. Graduated from OBU in 1958, and Baylor in 1962 with a Ph.D. in Psychology. On December 24, 1960, he married Nancy Jo Pitts in Valley Mills, TX. In 1962, he took his first teaching position at Murray State in Kentucky where Jane Ann was born. Moved to Lubbock in 1964 to teach at Texas Tech where he remained for 27 years teaching countless students he formed the doctoral program in Human Factors Psychology in 1966 at Texas Tech. He left Tech and moved to Wichita, KS in 1992 to form a new Ph.D. program in human factors psychology at Wichita State.

During his life, he had many passions including sailing, amateur radio, western swing, computers, and baseball. He poured himself into each completely and loved sharing what he learned with anyone who would listen. He was a deacon at Second Baptist Church and was passionate about studying the bible with friends from church and sharing his love of Christ with others.

His legacy of students remembers him as tough but fair. He was deeply invested in his students, and he always wanted the best for them. He published 69 scientific papers and supervised over 70 theses and impacted generations of scholars.

He loved his family and was always laughing and loving when he was with them. He was proud of the accomplishments of his daughters and their children.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Halcomb; children, Jane Ann (Kenny) Matlock, Leigh (Brad) Scott, and Charla (Kent) Allen; grandchildren, Ashley (Dustin) Pedigo, Aaron (Jessie) Hays, Warren Scott, Grayson Scott, Audrey Allen, Morgan Allen, Charles Allen, Dimitri Allen; great-grandchildren, Holly, Melody and Simon Pedigo, and Hannah Hays; and siblings, Jerry (Betty) Halcomb; and Elaine (Steve) Wintory.
As well as many nieces and nephews.


The family of Charles Halcomb has designated the Human Factors Psychology gift fund at Texas Tech University for memorial contributions donated in his memory.
