Charles Wayne Graham was born October 21, 1940, to R.D. and Ruby Graham in Childress, Texas. He was the youngest of nine children.
He married Sonja Kay Garvin on August 22, 1959 at their home in Childress. They welcomed their first son, Michael Dean, in October of 1961 in Childress, and their second son, Mark David, in August of 1965 in Lubbock.
Charles’s career took the family from West Texas to Littleton, Colorado; Casper, Wyoming; Cedar Hill, Texas; and eventually back to Lubbock.
Much of his early career was spent with Burroughs Corporation where he worked from 1958 – 1975. He began as a Serviceman but his hard work and commitment to learning led him to develop his skills in mechanics, electronics, and programming. He advanced to District Systems Manger and eventually moved into a Branch Sales Specialist position.
When he left Burroughs in 1975, he worked for a few different companies before landing as a partner to head up system design, documentation, and quality control for InterMark.
In 1980 he received a job offer from American State Bank in Lubbock, Texas, where he would work until his retirement in 2006.
In 1994 Charles and Sonja were overjoyed at the arrival of their granddaughter, Kasey Nicole.
Charles was deeply respected and loved by his family, friends and co-workers. He had great skills as a problem solver, and his mental agility and sense of humor made him a compassionate mentor.
He was a devoted Christian who accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on June 30, 1953 at a Billy Graham Crusade in Amarillo. He was baptized in 1965 at Highland Baptist Church in Lubbock. He and Sonja became members of Southcrest Baptist Church in 2001.
Charles is survived by his wife, Sonja Graham; children, Mark Graham, and Michael Graham; grandchild, Kasey Renfro; brother, Don Graham.
He died on Sunday, October 8, 2023.
