Charles Dwain Walker, age 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 1, 2021. The family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 pm -7:30 pm on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. We will celebrate his life at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Victory Life Baptist Church, followed by graveside services at 2:30 pm at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Amarillo. In support of the health of everyone, face coverings are mandatory while attending the service. The service will be live-streamed on this page, where you are encouraged to sign the virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy.Dwain was born in Tulia, TX, on July 1, 1937, to Lee & Olive Lorene Bozeman Walker. He was the third of eight children. At approximately one year of age, his family moved to Lincoln County, Tennessee. He attended Elementary school at Kelso and Mulberry, TN. He attended Lincoln County Central High School thru his sophomore year. He left school after his sophomore year to work in Florida at a dairy for two years. He then joined the Air Force in November 1955 and served until February 1960. During that time, he spent a year of his service at Dhahran Air Force Base in Saudi Arabia. While in the Air Force, he earned his GED. After being discharged, He settled in Happy, TX, where he farmed for a couple of years, before being hired as Business Manager and Tax Assessor-Collector of Happy ISD. He met and married Sherry Ann Denton. To this union were born three boys, Charles “Chuck,” Rodney, and David Walker. Dwain also began attending night classes in Canyon, TX, at West Texas State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1971 in Data Processing and Computer Science. In 1971 he was employed by Region 16 Education Service Center as a computer Consultant to area school districts. In July 1975, he became Business Manager and Tax Assessor-Collector of the Pampa ISD. On July 1, 1981, he became employed as Assistant Superintendent for Business Affairs of the Amarillo Independent School District. He retired from Amarillo Public Schools in November 1993. During this time, he also held various offices, including president of the Panhandle Association of School Business Officials, president of the Panhandle School Leaders Association. He also was a Director of The Texas Association of School Business Officials and held offices of Vice-President and President of Retired Texas Association of School Administrators.After his retirement, he worked as a loan officer for the Education Credit Union in Amarillo. In 1997, he received his Insurance and Securities License and became self-employed as a financial and investment advisor until his retirement in April 2004.He was ordained a deacon by First Baptist Church of Happy, TX, where he served until he moved to Pampa, TX. He subsequently served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Pampa, TX, Paramount Baptist Church in Amarillo, TX, and at Victory Life Baptist Church of Lubbock, TX. Humble and kind is a great description of Dwain. He was one of the most patient men God ever created. He was a good listener, and when he spoke, everyone listened.He met Bobbie Sue Stephens in Pampa, and they married on October 23, 2004, in Pampa, TX. After their marriage, they settled in Lubbock, TX, where they spent many happy years together. They organized and served together at Victory Life Baptist Church as Co-Directors of The Trailblazers’ Senior Adult Ministry.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sherry Denton Walker in 2002; son Charles Loran “Chuck” Walker; stepsons Lyndel Wayne Kent and Michael Stephens; parents Lee & Lorene Walker; siblings, Minnie Pearl Walker Moses, Jessie Lee Walker, Waurayne Walker Cope, and Patrick Ray Walker.He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Sue Walker; his sons, Rodney and David Walker; daughter-in-law Kim Walker; his stepchildren, Dana Wilson, Belinda Carter, and Randy Stephens; siblings Bobby Fulmer, Connie Laird, Patsy Ziegler; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
