Charles “CJ” Wayne Hargrove III, 38, passed away Monday, July 24, 2023, in Lubbock, TX. He was born on December 26, 1984, to Charles Hargrove, Jr. and Lourdes Isett in Lubbock, TX. He married Lindsey Applequist on September 9, 2017. CJ was an inspiration to many, his community, family, and friends. He took pride and joy in his son Hunter, and his focus was being the best father and husband he could be. CJ was extremely intelligent and excelled in academics throughout his tenure in school. He attended Coronado High School and later pursued a degree from South Plains College. CJ was astute enough that while attending college he discovered an error in a math textbook. After college, he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and join the family business. After several years of hard work, he became a partner in Charles Hargrove and Associates, one of the best commercial paint contracting companies in Texas. He spent long days and weekends painting and working hard out on the job sites. His days on the job site were not only spent working hard but also having fun determining who could find the best breakfast burrito.
In addition to joining Hargrove and Associates, he also built his own business, Charles Hargrove Custom Homes, where he worked hard at designing beautiful homes in West Texas. He was highly engaged in local politics, running for office, and wanting the best for his community.
CJ had many hobbies, some of which included playing pool and dominoes, in which he was highly proficient and extremely hard to beat. He also enjoyed flying his airplane and receiving his pilot’s license. He enjoyed watching football on the weekends with family cheering for Texas Tech, Dallas Cowboys, or Denver Broncos. Some of his best nights were spent staying up late with son, Hunter playing Mario, only because Hunter was ahead, and CJ still wanted to beat him. CJ is playing in heaven with his beloved and beautiful dog Roscoe, who he loved very much.
If you knew CJ, you knew his heart. He would do anything for anyone. He was the most kind, loving, and gentle soul anyone could meet. He wanted everyone around him to be happy, even if that meant sacrificing his own. Multiple times CJ bought out the newspaper vendors just so they could go home and take the day off. When doing so he would always say; “Hard workers help hard workers.” He was patient and put others before him without hesitation.
CJ is survived by his wife, Lindsey, son, Hunter, parents, Charles and Renée, sister, Diana, brother, Robert, and sister Stacey (Steve). His nieces Haley, Faith, and Myka (Kaden). His nephews Jay, Lex, Cy, and James. His mother-in-law Karen Lethco and father-in-law Dean Applequist. His brothers-in-law; Ryan, Travis, and Ashton. Niece, Emma, and nephews, Cayson and Tucker.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lourdes Isett. His grandparents; Charles & Janice Hargrove, Phillip & Lu’Nell Isett, and Melburn & Estene Stamback.
CJ is loved very much and will be deeply missed, and we rest in the fact knowing we will see him in heaven again. He is rejoicing in heaven now with his mother, whom he loved very much.
