Cathryn was born on August 15, 1920, to James and Della (Carthel) Huddleston in Lockney, Texas. She graduated from Lockney High School. On September 14, 1939, she married Joe Handley in Lockney. While living in Lockney, they had four children and owned a water well drilling business. From 1961 until 1976 they lived in Lubbock. After the passing of her husband, she moved back to Lockney and worked as a salesperson for Brown’s Department Store. In 1983 she moved to Tahoka to live closer to her son. She was a long-time member of the Quaker Avenue Church of Christ. Cathryn enjoyed working on any kind of handwork from crochet to embroidery. She was an avid reader and read the Bible through many times. Cathryn was a kind, loving and Proverbs 31 woman. She will be missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her parents; two sons, Stephen V. Handley, and J.D. Handley, a grandson, Darren Handley, a granddaughter, Angela Handley, and three sisters.
Cathryn is survived by a daughter, Cathy Bridgers and husband, Don of Lubbock; a son, Benny C. Handley of Tahoka; two daughters-in-law, Drilma Handley, and Kay Handley both of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Brian Handley and wife Vicki; Tiffany Handley, Alicia Stephens and husband Stacy; and Erica Handley; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lela Skutevik; along with many nieces and nephews.
