Carolyn Rebecca Lockett

Carolyn Rebecca Nelson Lockett was a lovely lady, a cherished and devoted wife, a matchless mother, a loving grandmother, a devoted daughter, a treasured sister, a dear aunt, a true friend, a faithful Christian.

A memorial celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday October 3, 2018 in the sanctuary of Trinity Church, 7002 Canton Avenue, Lubbock, Texas. Pastor Carl Toti and Pastor David Savage will officiate. A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6025 82nd, Lubbock, Texas. Burial will be in Oakview Cemetery, Mullin, Texas at 1:30 pm on Thursday October 4, 2018.

Carolyn was born in Clyde, Texas, on November 29, 1937. Her parents were Carolyn Florence and Alva Mitchell Nelson. She graduated from Winters High School. She was a graduate of Texas Tech University, from which she received a B.S. degree in 1960 and M.S. in Home Economics Education in 1965. She was married to Carroll Bert Lockett on May 29, 1965. She taught home economics at Plains High School, Coronado High School, Texas Tech University, and retired from Frenship High School in 1992.

Carolyn’s life spoke with great moral force. She was a woman of conviction who always stood for what was right and good. She was always able to give so much of herself to others, and she was a woman given to hospitality. With the Lord’s help and great doctors, she overcame a number of life’s opportunities throughout her journey, earning the love and respect from those inspired by her courage, strength and faith.

Her steadfast devotion to family, loyalty to friends, and uncompromising integrity inspired those of us who were blessed to know her. Truly, she was the woman we read about in Proverbs 31.

“ If you find a truly good wife, she is worth more than precious gems – far more than rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life…she works with eager hands…she gets up while it is still dark to prepare breakfast for her family and plans the day’s work…she is energetic and a hard worker…her family and her friends stand and bless her- so does her husband. He praises her with these words: ‘there are many fine women in the world, but you are the best of them all’. Charm can be deceptive and beauty doesn’t last, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”

She leaves a grateful family: Her husband, Carroll Bert Lockett, three sons and daughters-in-law: Leighton Lane and Melissa Gayle Lockett, Lubbock; Christopher Carroll and Cristi Lyn Lockett, Coppell; Landry Lynn and Piper Ellison Lockett, Amarillo; ten grandchildren: Aletheia, Trafton, Ansley, Adalyn, Teighdon, Laurel, Laine, Paxton, Ellison, and London; two brothers and their wives: Minor and Robbye Dale Nelson and Elmer and Bobbye Nelson; sister-in-law, Marguerite Nelson and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Archie Nelson.

We are eternally grateful for all of the love and dedicated care given to Carolyn by her Doctors: Dr. Brad Snodgrass, Dr. Richard Rosen, Dr. Usha Gaunga, Dr. Isaac Tafur, Dr. Benny Phillips, the staff at Covenant Medical Center, Arrington Cancer Center, and Carillon House.

Carolyn’s life and love were like the movies, except they were real. Right up to the end she was spreading love and encouraging everyone with whom she came into contact. Her final words spoken on this earth as she looked into Carroll’s eyes were, “Love you forever.”

Carolyn, Mom, we love you forever too, and we’ll meet you in Heaven.
