Mickey and family,What a treasure we have lost with Carl's passing. However, Heaven has gained another angel. He was always such a gentleman and soft-spoken. I and some of my friends can remember playing poker with him in some enjoyable times together. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

As a 7th grade student at Hutchinson Junior High in 1988, I chose to do my history fair project on the Texas Rangers. My interview with Captain Casteel and Sergeant Weathers led to a great project, and they even displayed my project in their office for several weeks after the history fair. Through high school, I would stop by his office, and then Captain Weathers would invite me in for coffee and story swapping. I was always amazed that he would make time to talk to some goofy band kid, but he always did. In college, I interviewed him again , along with Sergeant Yeager, for a different project. He and Mrs. Weathers even attended my senior percussion recital. Carl made a positive impact in my life, and I know that Texas is better because of his dedicated service. He will be missed but not forgotten.

Mrs. Weathers, from 1989 to 1994 I worked at the Lubbock DPS office as a part time maintenance man while attending Texas Tech. I got to know Carl during that time and always had the utmost respect for him. Even though I was just the maintenance man, Carl would always take the time to speak to me. I always wanted to be a Ranger and he gave me sound advice on how to be a good police officer first. I haven't spoken to him since I left Lubbock, but I wanted to express my sincerest condolences to you and your family. He was a true Texas lawman and I can honestly say that I have put some of what he said to use in my career. God bless you and your family. Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us.
