On September 26, 1974, Brandon Craig was born to Donnie Wayne and Rosemary Elizabeth (Huseman) Thurman in Plainview, TX. In 1998, Rose and Brandon moved to Temple, Texas where he graduated from Temple High School in 1994. After graduation, he moved back to Plainview, where he worked at Walmart Distribution Center for 13 years. In 1998, he met the love of his life, Lucretia. On June 4, 1999, he married Lucretia. They moved to Lubbock in 2001, where he began his journey in law enforcement. He graduated from South Plains College Police Academy in 2008. He served in Odessa, Texas, and Slaton, Texas, before settling in Petersburg as a reserve officer in 2012. In 2014, he became chief of police of Petersburg until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Lucretia Thurman; daughters, Lezlee Thurman and Brianna Wellman; mother, Rosemary Thurman; father-in-law, Wesley Sanders; mother-in-law, Nancy Sanders; sisters-in-law, Crystal Jones and Cynthia Montez and husband Bobby Garcia; nieces and nephews, Dalton, Dylan, Alexis, Ashleigh, Mason, Ayden, Ronnice, and Laila Garcia; and his life-long friend, Charley Reese and wife Jennie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donnie Wayne Thurman, sister, Donna Thurman, brother Lonnie Thurman, and paternal and maternal grandparents.
The family of Brandon Thurman has designated the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department for memorial contributions donated in his memory.
