Betty Charlene Kieth, fondly known as “Mim”, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, surrounded by her family singing hymns and worshipping her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born on March 5, 1944, in Lamesa, Texas to J.W. and Ida Mae Edwards and was the youngest of four children. She often talked about her fond childhood memories involving her parents and siblings growing up in New Home, Texas.
Charlene grew up in New Home, Texas and graduated from New Home High School in 1962. She married Freddie Kieth on October 12, 1963, and was a lifelong devoted wife of a cotton farmer. They raised their three children on faith, hope and love. Charlene was always a steady, loving force that brought and held their family together.
Her love for children’s ministry was endless and exemplified through her teaching the 4th and 5th grade Sunday School class at New Home Baptist Church for 65 years. In addition to teaching, she loved serving in the church and each year headed up the Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong fundraising campaigns to support missions around the world. Charlene had a heart for the Lord and wanted everyone to know Jesus as she did! Her love of the Lord was also evident in how she served the people of the community as she cared for the elderly, those who were sick, and ministered to families experiencing difficult times. She so loved her church family and the New Home Community.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Ida Mae Edwards, two sisters, Evelyn Kent and Deloris Edwards, and her brother, John Edwards.
She is survived by her husband, Freddie Kieth of Lubbock, Texas. Children, Lana Kruse (David Kruse) of Lubbock, Texas, Lance Kieth (Kelli Kieth) of Canyon, Texas, and La-shea Slaydon of Waxahachie, Texas. Grandchildren, Kendra Martin, Kamber Kennedy (Garrett Kennedy), Jet Cannon (Madison Cannon), Jace Cannon (Karissa Cannon), Kelsi Richardson (Rhett Richardson), Landry Kieth, Karrington Slaydon, and Kennedee Slaydon. Great-grandchildren, Kenli, Rafe, Masyn, Swayze, Presley, Merritt, Knox, and Woodrow.
