Beth Lewis Aven Andrews passed away peacefully on May 7, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 5:30 to 7 PM Friday, May 11, 2018, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.
Beth was born on November 29, 1937, at home in Temple, TX to Dwight L. and Alice Reeves Lewis. Her family farmed in the Temple area and she started school in Heidenheimer, TX. In December 1945, the family moved to Hale County to farm and she attended school in Hart, TX. She graduated from Hart High School in 1957. She married Melvin Larry Aven on January 11, 1958, at Valley View Church. Three children were born to their marriage Retha, Brett, and Matt.
She was a stay-at-home mother until her youngest child, Matt, started school. She worked at Farmers State Bank in Hart. In 1972, she and her three children moved to Plainview where she worked at Hale County State Bank from 1972 through 1989. In 1994, she started work with City Bank in Lubbock, retiring in 2006.
Beth was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Lubbock and participated in the Pillow Ministry.
She married Gerald Andrews in Plainview, Texas, July 30, 1976.
She is predeceased by her parents, Dwight and Alice Lewis; former husband, Melvin; and son, Matthew Lewis Aven.
Beth is survived by her son, Brett Aven and wife, Sandra of Plainview; daughter, Retha Aven Hunnicutt and husband, Jim of Midland. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Brandon Aven and wife, Angela of Prospect Heights, IL; Brittany Aven Shankle and husband, Brent of Dallas; and Chance Aven of West Hollywood, CA; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Mattox Aven of Prospect Heights, IL; Sutton (and soon to arrive, Ryan) Shankle of Dallas, TX; and Brody Turcotte of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Beth is also survived by her cousins, Dene Lee and Lynn Moore of Temple, Texas, and Renie Whitman of Lowell, Arkansas.
Graveside services at Plainview Cemetery will be Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 11 AM with Dr. Richard Rush officiating.
