Bernice Clem, 90, long-time resident of New Home, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Bernice was born on August 28, 1934, in Lynn County to the late A.C. and Bessie Fillingim.
Bernice attended New Home Schools and graduated with her senior class in 1952. Following high school, Bernice married Clifton Clem in 1953 where they shared the love of farming. They made their home in New Home and had two sons, Mark and Mitch. She was an active member of the New Home Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School classes for many years and served faithfully.
Bernice, or “Grammy,” left behind a legacy of love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. God blessed her with many spiritual gifts, but her greatest gift was caring for others and serving her Lord. Bernice was always diligent and faithful in studying God’s Word and trying to live a godly life pleasing to God. She loved gardening, painting, traveling to Colorado, and being involved with farming.
Bernice was preceded in death by her son Mitch, her parents, her sister Betty Blacker, her brother Joe Robert (Bobby) Fillingim, and her best friend, Charlene Kieth.
Those left to cherish and honor her memory includ her husband, one son, Mark, and his wife, Georgia. Her grandchildren include Jody Clem and wife Lauren of New Home, J’Lynn Mounce and her husband Ian of Lubbock, and Jordan Clem and his wife Corey of New Home. Her great-grandchildren include McKinley Clem, Conley Mounce, Locklynn Mounce, Chloe Clem, River Mounce, Kollins Clem, Blakely Clem, Ellie Clem, and Kirbe Clem. She is also survived by one brother, A.C. Fillingim, Jr., and a host of friends.
