Bernell was born September 21, 1942, to J.B. and Eleanor Madison Ponton in San Saba, TX. She married L.E. Wilson on April 7, 1962, at the Methodist Church in Ropesville, Texas.
Bernell and L.E. Wilson have known each other since the 5th grade. At Ropes High School, they started dating their sophomore year. After marriage, L.E. Wilson joined the Air Force and was stationed in Colorado, Arizona and overseas in Germany. After which they moved back to the farm in Ropesville, Texas where they lived and farmed for 43 years. In 1999, they started a home construction business in Lubbock, Texas. Bernell possessed the gift of home interior design providing an exceptional, finishing touch to the homes they built. Later she worked as a licensed realtor selling homes in Lubbock.
Bernell always said that being a mother was her greatest privilege and honor. She would tell her children, “Being a mom means the world to me, my kids are my life.” She loved her children unconditionally sacrificing herself for the needs of her children. Even though it was challenging at times, she never complained about what she needed to provide for them. Bernell possessed a beautiful, heartfelt connection with her children that only a mother can understand.
Bernell and L.E. were loving, lifelong partners for 62 years. They stood side by side through the good and tough times. This special marriage relationship grew to becoming amazing friends. Their friendship was the underlying success of their marriage. Sharing their lives was the core of their marriage friendship, they depended on each other for strength, support, and comfort. More importantly, they both relied on Jesus Christ to light the way which allowed them to weather life’s storms.
Bernell is survived by her husband, L.E. Wilson; children, Scott (Kellie) Wilson, Tracy (Jason) Zimmermann; grandchildren, Lance Weaver, Haylee Hutto, Tim Stovall, Hilary Hesse, Madison Zimmermann, Emma Zimmermann; and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by parents, J.B. and Eleanor Ponton and brother Dean H. Ponton.
