Bennie D Ussery passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 6 to 8 PM Friday, May 4, 2018, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 81 years on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at 10 AM at Lake Ridge Chapel.

Bennie D was born on September 14, 1936, to F. A. and Ruby Maynard Ussery in Lubbock, Texas. On January 29, 1993, Bennie married the love of his life, Diane at the Lorenzo Baptist Church in Lorenzo, Texas. He was involved in Law enforcement for 50 years working with Lubbock Police Department, Lubbock Sheriff’s Department, the US Marshalls, Spur and Olton Chief of Police and ended her career as the School Police for Olton, Shallowater, and Friendship. He loved working with kids most of his career from the Police Athletic League, Golden Gloves, and 2 stents in the Juvenile division with LPD to working in the schools.

Bennie was a member of McKenzie Masonic Lodge and Freedom Chapter of OES. He was a past Worshipful Master and Past Worthy Patron. He also worked as an adult advisor for the McKenzie Rainbow Girls assembly.

He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed spending time around the camp fire with his brothers, nephews, and sons every year during hunting season. As the girls were growing up he was always going to choir concerts, voice recitals, band concerts, and several years supporting Kim and Becky in Rainbow activities including traveling the state of Texas for various activities.

He could always be found watching his grandchildren. Weather it was with band competitions, Jr High school plays, sitting at the pond fishing or basketball and football games he was ready to support them every chance he had.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Ussery; children, Kim Billingsley and husband, Sam; Rebecca Ussery; Cindy McAllister and husband, Scott; Jamie Moore and Joanna Scungio; and Adam Moore and wife, Marsha; grandchildren, Gilbert Jones and husband, Matthew Andersen; Thad Jones; Stephen Ussery and wife, Amanda; Autumn and Maverick Moore; Crystal Scott and husband, Justin; Casey Wilkins and husband, Ronnie; Christopher McAllister and wife, Burkley; Tyler McAllister; Angela Teague and husband, Robin; Samuel Billingsley and wife, Callie; and Matt Billingsley; great-grandchildren, Hadyn, Hadleigh, and Harrison Scott; Wyatt and Garrett Wilkins; Ellorie McAllister; Eden and Shepard Billingsley; two sisters, Dola Miller; Anita Spellman and husband, Gary; two brothers, Henry Ussery and wife, Faye; and Gerald Ussery and wife, Francis.

He was preceded in death by his father, F. A. and Ruby Mae Ussery; brother, Gene Ussery and JD Ussery; sisters-in-law, Buddy and Vona Ussery.

Mrs Diane Ussery, I am so sorry to hear about Honey. He was such a wonderful sweetheart. I just heard about him today as when he passed, I too was just released from the hospital. Diane so sorry to hear of Bennie's passing. My boys thought so much of him when he was the school policeman in Shallowater , he was so good to the kids. Sending prayers of peace and comfort for you all.

My sincere condolences to Kim and the rest of the family. I first met Bennie in a SPAG law enforcement training class in 1978. He almost popped my shoulder out of place showing me some physical restraint techniques. We laughed about it and would see each other every now and then over the next many years. He was a kind, caring person whom I was honored to know.

I interviewed Bennie on several occasions when I worked in media and he was always the nicest, sweetest,kindest person. I remember he was a breeze to talk to and I felt I had known him all my life.

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Condolences to Bennie's entire family. I have many great memories of you all. Bennie never met a stranger and loved being around people. He was a good man and will be missed by many.

I lived in the same neighborhood as Bennie when we were in high school. Knew him when he was on the police force. He was a kind and caring man as well as a good friend. Have thought of him many times through the years.

So sad to hear this. I have so many great memories of this wonderful man! He was a man I looked up to as a kid. Great role model and would do ANYTHING to help any kid out. Haven’t seen you guys in a long time unfortunately. But I think of him regularly! Especially when hunting or fishing season comes around! I work in North Dakota now on a drilling rig and just came back to work yesterday for my two weeks. Sadly this means I can’t make the service. But know that I’m thinking about you guys and wish I could pay respects in person. Love y’all!
