Bailey Ross Mayo, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, at the age of 89. He was born on May 18, 1936, in Winters, Texas.
Bailey, a life-long Red Raider Fan, was a proud graduate of Texas Tech University. Through his work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Bailey made a significant impact in soil conservation. His commitment to nurturing the land echoed his love for nature and the many lives it supported, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. An avid fisherman and hunter, Bailey found joy and fulfillment in the great outdoors. Bailey was a devoted husband to his late wife Mary Lee. He later found love again with Sandy Lehman, who stood beside him in life’s later chapters. He was a proud father to sons Dewayne Gray and Byron Gray. He cherished and had a special bond with both his daughters-in-law, Susie Gray and Kathi Gray. His family grew to include 4 beloved granddaughters; Amber, Maranda, Katelyn, and Autumn, and 4 treasured great-grandchildren; Skylar, Everly, Hendrix, and Ryker, all of whom brought him boundless joy. Bailey is survived by his devoted partner, Sandy Lehman; his son, Dewayne Gray, and his wife Susie; his son Byron Gray, and his wife Kathi; his sister Jean Gibbs, and her husband Connie; his niece Tammy Kaczyk and her husband Mark; his nephew Kenny Gibbs; his granddaughters and grandchildren. All will carry forward his spirit in their memories.
Bailey was preceded in death by: His parents A.L. and Neva Mayo and late wife Mary Lee Mayo.
