In Memory of the Life and Times of Anna Lea Smith-Pope.
Ann was the loving wife of Thomas Leon Pope for 74 years prior to his passing. Born on August 27, 1929, in Benton, Texas, her parents named her Anna Lea. When she was 4 years old, they moved to Euless, where she first met her future husband, 7-year-old Leon. The Smith and Pope families became close lifelong friends. After High School, Anna Lea went to college, and Leon joined the United States Navy. After returning from World War 2, Anna Lea and Leon married on June 12, 1948, in the First Baptist Church of Euless. She was known as Ann Pope from then on, and within a year they had their first son Thomas Leon Pope Jr. in 1949. Ann and Leon moved to Hawaii 3 years later, after Leon reenlisted in the Navy during the Korean War. Ann had a second son, Terrance Lee Pope in 1952. When they returned from Hawaii, they, settled in Arlington and had her daughter Trisha Lea Pope in 1954. Ann worked as a church secretary for First Baptist Church in nearby Grand Prairie. In 1965, the family relocated to northern California and she worked as executive secretary to the Vice President of Development at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. They later relocated to Dublin and she worked as executive secretary for the Contra Costa Board of Realtors. In 1973 Ann and Leon relocated to Sacramento, California where she worked as executive assistant to the CEO of Methodist Hospital. When Ann and Leon retired, they moved to Lubbock Texas to be near her sister Mary Jo and husband Y. F. Snodgrass, brother Jim Bob and wife Roy Fay Smith. Daughter Trisha and husband Curt Nielsen joined them in 2001. Their son Tom resides in Cambria, California.
