Andrew James Staha (Andy) age 76 died on January 27, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas.
For almost one year Andy was on hospice, during which a gallant battle was fought with COPD. Sadly he succumbed to progressive COPD with complications of pneumonia . His zest for life and strong constitution keep him living much longer than the doctors’ prognosis. Fortunately, he died peacefully in the loving and comforting arms of his brother Albert and Albert’s wife Lenise who were his DAILY caregivers. He moved in with them on March 1, 2024. Lenise and Albert certainly “spoiled” Andy with home cooking, warm and cozy accommodations, and a feelings of love, security, and comfort.
Born November 23, 1948 in San Angelo, TX to Leo and Regina Staha, Andy was the eldest of six children. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic grammar school and then went to St. Lucian‘s seminary in Amarillo for high school. After graduation he returned to San Angelo to attend Angelo State University studying electrical engineering. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served for four years, including time in Vietnam.
Thereafter, Andy moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and worked in telecommunications. There he met his future wife Jacki, and they got married in 1978. They have one son, Stephen. Unfortunately, Andy got divorced and never remarried. He and his son moved to Colorado in the early 1980’s, living in Aurora and Colorado Springs. Andy eventually returned to Texas after his son was grown and chose to live in Lubbock. Andy‘s talents were obscure to many because he didn’t show the caliber and depth of his personality and lifestyle because he was reserved, humble, and unassuming. However his best qualities were being kind, sweet, and gentle, just like our dad, Leo, AND BOTH WERE VERY ATTENTIVE LISTENERS!!
Andy enjoyed family gatherings and reunions and a couple times attended three in the same year. He was a joy to be around, and was so polite….he would ask if he could ask a question!!
His work was his passion AND hobby. Because of his background, training , and being self-sufficient he was able to buy and flip properties. He was employed by CUSTOM HOME BUILDERS , and also worked jobs with his brother Albert. They also leased land to farm and grow vegetables as an additional hobby.
Andy was pre-deceased by his parents and one brother Michael Joseph Staha, (Mike) who recently passed on May 30, 2024 in San Antonio, TX.
Andy is survived by his son, Stephen Kyle Staha, and wife Aysha and their two daughters Ruby and Lily, Ashland, Oregon.
Andy’s surviving siblings are:
Patricia (Patti)Staha (Simmons) Kerrville TX
Frances Staha Crider, Allen TX
Elizabeth Staha Shary, San Angelo TX
Albert Charles Staha, Lubbock TX
Andy was especially close to Albert and his wife Lenise Sullivan Staha;
Mike’s widow, Jamie Wolf Staha, San Antonio, TX.
Patti’s husband Evan J. Simmons, Kerrville TX.
Shaylla, Brooklin, and Jaci Staha (three daughters of Albert and Lenise).
Also, he enjoyed sharing time with Gage, Ryleigh, and Jeremy Diaz, also from Lubbock TX
Of course, being from a large family on both sides , Andy had numerous nieces, nephews ,cousins, and second cousins. Some lived out of state, but many are in the San Angelo, Fredericksburg and Schulenburg TX areas.
Andy’s final wishes were to be cremated with no fuss over him, and never wanted to be a burden or ask for anything. We loved him dearly and will remember his beautiful mind and spirit for the rest of our lives! May he rest in eternal peace.✝️
