Amy was born on April 9, 1975, to Bill and Betsy Lawson in Dallas, TX. Amy started her career with CPS in 2000. It was her second job after graduating from Texas Tech and quickly became her passion. Amy spent hundreds of nights on call and always strived to make herself available to staff. She was promoted quickly to supervisor in 2005 and eventually spent most of her tenure as Program Director. Her passion for child welfare was contagious, and she provided a bright light and humor at the most needed times. Though she wore many hats during her tenure, her heart was always with children in conservatorship (foster care), most notably teenagers. Not only did she strive and advocate to see her children and families succeed, but also to lift up those she worked so closely with as a mentor, supervisor, or just being there when someone needed to talk about a bad day.”
Amy is survived by her fianceé, Doug Smith; son, Taylor Patton; parents, Betsy (Ken) Nalley, Bill (Judy) Lawson; sister, Emily (Scott Pyle) Lawson; grandmother, Barbara Thomson.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Les and Clara Lawson, and Ralph Thomson.
