Amando Gutierrez passed away on March 3, 2019. A time of fellowship and remembrance is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 80 years at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Lake Ridge Chapel.Amando arrived in the United States with his family in 1949, settling in San Ygnacio, Texas and attending school in Zapata, Texas. In 1958, he moved to New Home, Texas, where he began working at the local cotton gin. In 1961, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a mechanical instructor for two years. In February 1963, Amando met his sweetheart and love of his life, Connie Cardenas, and soon after moved to the Slide community to begin their life together.In 1977, Amando and his family, including their two daughters, moved to Petersburg, Texas, where he spent his time working as a mechanic at the Petersburg Coop Gin. After years of serving the community, his family returned to Lubbock and Amando began working as Foreman for Lubbock County, Precinct 3. He spent 10 hard working years serving Lubbock County and later retired in 2005.Amando accepted Christ as his Savior in October 1985 and since displayed a steadfast dedication to his faith. He served as a deacon at Primera Iglesia Bautista and Hispana Baptist Church in Lubbock. He was loved by each member of the congregation and made a lasting impact in the hearts of many, young and old.Amando will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and a doting “Pepo” to his four grandsons. His unwavering support for his family, especially his grandsons, never went unnoticed by all who knew him.Survivors include his wife, Connie; their daughters, Sonia Arismendez and husband, Raul; and Sandra Jones and husband, Chris; four grandchildren, Nathaniel Arismendez and wife, Shyla; Ethan Arismendez and wife, Lacey; Tyler and Kyle Jones; siblings, Erasmo Gutierrez and wife, Catalina; and San Juana Arambula and husband, Ramiro.He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Angel and Clementina Gutierrez; his brothers, Porfirio Gutierrez and Adan Gutierrez; and sisters, Aurora Gutierrez, Irene Hernandez, and Maude Ramirez.
