Alphelia Elaine Kirkland, a cherished soul born on April 12, 1959, in the quaint town of Blackville, South Carolina, gracefully departed from this world on November 30, 2024. She was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, whose vibrant spirit and warmth left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
A proud graduate of the University of South Carolina, Alphelia earned her bachelor’s degree in English and ventured forth to Dallas, Texas, where she left her imprint on the banking realm, specifically within Bank of America’s mortgage loan division. Her unwavering dedication to her craft was rivaled only by her profound love for her family and her zest for life.
With a heart attuned to the melodies of existence, she reveled in music and dance, often finding joy in people and films that sparked laughter and reflection among those she adored. A year and a half prior to her passing, she made the heartfelt decision to relocate to Lubbock from South Carolina, embracing the warmth of her treasured children.
Alphelia’s legacy lives on through her devoted daughter, Ariel Northern, and her husband Zach; her son, AJ Kirkland; her mother, Edith Odom; her brother, Emmit Odom, Jr. and his wife, Valerie; her sister, Kim Smith and her husband, Gerald; and her brother, Derrick Odom and his wife, Diana, and a host of nieces and nephews. Each of them carries a fragment of her radiant spirit and the profound influence she imparted upon their lives.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Augustus Kirkland, and her father, Emmit Odom.
