Soyla Criado passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020. We will gather to recite the Holy Rosary Monday at 7:00 pm followed by a reception at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. We will celebrate her life of 83 years at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Friends are invited to share memories and expressions of sympathy for the family to cherish and view her life tribute at

Soyla was born on February 28, 1936, to Hurbano and Juanita Rivera in Poteet, Texas. Soyla married Reynaldo Santos Criado on June 6, 1954, at St. Phillips Benizi Catholic Church in Poteet, Texas. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and fur baby Momma.  She took pride in being a wonderful homemaker for her family always sewing the family costumes, quinceanera dresses, new grandbaby outfits and never using a pattern.  She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Guadalupanas. She always donated to the local animal shelter and St. Jude’s Hospital.  Soyla loved her mariachi music any day and all day. If you ever asked her how old she was, her response would be, “I’m 15 years old” every year.

May she continue to celebrate her quinceanera and be 15 years old forever!

Survivors include her husband, Reynaldo Criado; five daughters, Yolanda Criado Trujillo, Samda (Victor) Criado Mendoza, Brenda (Ramiro) Criado Hernandez, Melissa (Lewis) Criado Soto, Soyla Juanita (Emilio) Criado Garcia; ten grandchildren, Andrea Raquel Criado, Heather Marie (Efran) Guzman, Joshua Reynaldo Mendoza, Hector Ramiro Hernandez, Alyssa Rae Hernandez, Brandi Nicole (Hondo) Rivera, Miranda Ann Soto, Briana Marie (Oscar) Soto-Romo, Michael Anthony Garcia-Criado, Alonzo Emilio Garcia; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hurbano and Juanita Gonzalez Rivera; a grandchild, Alonzo Criado Sifuentes; and all of her siblings.

  2. Sending prayers to the Criado family. I always felt like she was my Grandma too! I will never forget her being at all of our soccer games yelling at us to “Run”! Such great memories of such an amazing lady! I know she will be missed by all. Praying for comfort and peace for all of y’all.

  3. We offer our deepest & sincere condolences to Tio Rey the the many other family members. It is always sad and painful to lose a loved one, we can never be prepared for such a loss, all we can do is ask our Savior to give us the strength to be able to cope. It is He, and only He, that can give us the peace & tranquility that will allow us to move on. I urge you all, to believe that comfort is truly attainable… if we ask for it…. God bless all of you, and may she rest in peace. We love you all,
