Here at Lake Ridge Chapel we honor our Memorial Designers with an Employee Spotlight Questionnaire. By asking each featured Memorial Designer about their work and life, we embody our mission to celebrate lives well-lived. Each role at Lake Ridge Chapel is valuable and unique. In this edition of our Memorial Designer Spotlight, we interview David Barker. David is the Assistant Funeral Director, in charge of Removals, set-up for funerals and visitations, and is generally available as needed in the range of his responsibilities. He joined Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers almost seven years ago when a good friend of his passed away and he felt he needed a change.
One moment that stood out for David while working at Lake Ridge Chapel involved a client who was a cook. This woman had won several awards and the Memorial Designer team went above and beyond on the visitation for the funeral service. Using her recipes, the Service Workers prepared meals and presented the food as though the chef herself had just cooked everything. There are many ways to have an impact on clients at Lake Ridge Chapel. David enjoys being there for them.
David Barker told us a little about his family. He’s been with his wife LaDonna for 20 years and they have three children some of whom have married and had children of their own. Aside from spending time with his children and grandchildren outside of work, David teachs 4th Grade Social Studies and serves as a Deacon at Bacon Heights. He loves to hike, camp, and travel. If he could learn to do anything, David would want to skydive!
If David could thank one person for helping him become the person he is today, it would be Lisa Trout. Lisa believed in David after her husband died and it was her encouragement that led David to doing something he had never done before, to start working at Lake Ridge Chapel.
He doesn’t spend all of his time working, so we asked David his favorite thing about Lubbock. David’s favorite restaurant? Lubbock is home for David and the Barker family, and their favourte place is their backyard BBQ where his family loves to entertain, with Italian Garden as a close second. The new location in the Reagor Dykes building downtown is very exciting!
The thing David admires the most about living in Lubbock and the Llano Estacado in the South Plains of West Texas is the friendly, “good ole folk” you find here. This feeds right into what he would tell people, (if only one thing!), about Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers:
“Just come visit. You’ll never want to leave. It’s home when all seems lost.”
Thank you David Barker for being such a wonderful Assistant Funeral Director!
