Setting goals can be intimidating. You might be asking “Why should I set goals?” or “How can setting goals help me?” Establishing goals is the first step toward realizing your dreams! In this post we’ll explore the reasons for setting goals, and in the next we’ll walk through concrete steps for setting those goals and achieving them. Whether you’re hoping to set New Year’s goals or just wanting to make a change, we’re here to encourage you to go for it!
Goals helps you move forward
When you make goals, you make a promise to yourself that you will continue to grow. Setting your sights on something ahead keeps you moving in the right direction. It’s easy to become complacent, but having something to aim for helps us to improve. As long as we’re working toward something we care about, we’re truly living.
Goals show how far you’ve come
With so much going on around us, it’s easy to lose track of just how much we’ve accomplished. Don’t let your successes fall through the cracks! When you set goals, it’s easier to see when you’ve achieved them. When you check off a goal, small or large, it shows that your determination was worth it. You can go back and see the journey of triumph that brought you to this point, ready for the next adventure.
Goals get you excited
There is something about setting a goal that lights a fire under you. Once a goal is down on paper, your mind starts thinking about how to achieve it. Your heart starts pumping. Before you know it, you’ve gotten to work, and you’ll be surprised how much fun that work can be. With that kind of enthusiasm, it’s only a matter of time—and effort—before you reach your goal.
Goals help you stop wasting time.
It’s easy to get wrapped up in a dreary routine. There are times to relax, but there are times to get things done. By setting your sights on a goal, you replace superfluous downtime with motivation. Think of how much you could accomplish if your free time was spent doing something you truly care about! It’s a small but important change. Replace that time on the couch with time spent working toward your ambitions!
Goals have a positive Impact
Working toward goals has a huge effect on your life. Goals give us motivation, something to look forward to, and a reason to get out of bed in the morning. Even if we fail, attempting a goal is fantastic. Achieving some of what you hope for is lightyears ahead of making no goal and accomplishing nothing. Hoping to lose 20 pounds is a wonderful goal, but what if you only lose 10? That’s fantastic, and so much better than gaining 15. And there’s nothing that says you can’t try again!
In our next blog, we’ll take a look at making goals that are achievable. In the meantime, be thinking about what you’d like to accomplish. Make a rough list of the things you’d like to accomplish, large or small, and we’ll help you narrow it down. It’s never too early or too late to work toward change!
